In remarks to the media on Friday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders bashed former FBI Director James Comey as a “disgraced partisan hack,” and said that former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe was a “known liar.”
The comments came in the aftermath of a New York Times report that says President Trump came under FBI investigation after Comey’s firing, with Bureau leaders suspecting that he was under the influence of the Kremlin.
President Trump himself condemned the former FBI leaders on Twitter.
“Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, almost all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin’ James Comey, a total sleaze!” he wrote. “Funny thing about James Comey. Everybody wanted him fired, Republican and Democrat alike. After the rigged & botched Crooked Hillary investigation, where she was interviewed on July 4th Weekend, not recorded or sworn in, and where she said she didn’t know anything (a lie).”
Trump said that “my firing of James Comey was a great day for America.”
In a statement from Sanders, she said the idea that President Trump was working for Russian interests was nothing less than “absurd.”
“James Comey was fired because he’s a disgraced partisan hack, and his Deputy Andrew McCabe, who was in charge at the time, is a known liar fired by the FBI,” she said. “Unlike President Obama, who let Russia and other foreign adversaries push American around, President Trump has actually been tough on Russia.”
So, to recap.
Part one of the Trump/Russia investigation was predicated on the word of George Papadopoulos, who drunkenly mentioned to an Australian diplomat that Russia had Hillary Clinton’s emails – emails which had absolutely nothing to do with the hacking of the DNC, which was later credited to the Kremlin. Part two was based on the so-called dossier, which was the work of FusionGPS, a firm hired by the Clinton campaign and the DNC to dig up dirt on their 2016 opponent. And part three apparently originated with the firing of Comey, which spurred the FBI to begin a vengeful counter-intelligence investigation against their own president. Does that about cover it?
The depths of corruption inside the FBI are apparently unending. We can only hope that most of the bad seeds have been plucked.
