CNN, which is getting ready to be sued for more than $250 million for their part in trashing Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann in January, has been at the very top of the fake news mountain for at least three years. While their biased, fact-free coverage of Ferguson, the Obama administration, Benghazi, and more has been atrocious for some time, their news reporting in the Trump era has been nothing short of astonishingly terrible. So for their president, Jeff Zucker, to appear on stage at the South by Southwest festival and call Fox News a “propaganda outlet,” it is the very height of arrogant irony.
But that’s what Zucker did, telling Vanity Fair reporter Joe Pompeo that there was no reason for the Democratic National Committee to let the conservative network host the Democratic primary debates.
“I think the consternation about this is a little misplaced,” Zucker said. “They don’t have to give one to CNN, they don’t have to give one to NBC. They have no obligation to give one to Fox.”
Right, but it’s not really about whether or not they are obligated to let Fox News host their debates. No one would have been particularly surprised if they didn’t. What was surprising and unnecessary was their decision to actually call Fox News out as dishonest in a statement, based on some shoddy reporting by Jane Mayer at the New Yorker. Speaking of fake news, we’re not sure how Mayer is still getting gigs after her part in the Kavanaugh false accusations debacle, but we suppose all of these leftist “journalists” look out for each other.
Anyway, Zucker went on to say that he did not even have respect for the straight news anchors at Fox News like Chris Wallace and Bret Baier.
“They chose to work at Fox and they don’t get to hide behind the fact that they’re excellent journalists or anchors. The fact is they work at a place that has done tremendous damage to this country,” he said.
It’s really hard for us to wrap our heads around how Fox News can do “tremendous damage” to the United States simply by covering angles and stories that CNN refuses to acknowledge. You have this sea of “mainstream media” on the one hand – CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, The New York Times, the Washington Post, etc. – and then on the other side you have what? Fox News and the Wall Street Journal? And it’s causing “tremendous damage” to have this (admittedly popular) lone raindrop in an thunderstorm of left-wing news coverage? It’s preposterous beyond belief.
If Fox News is all that was necessary to wrangle America away from the steady diet of BS fed to them by the liberal media, then that just shows you how easily undermined their narrative always was.
