Critics have long speculated on the upbringing of Barack Obama. Was he born in the United States? Is he really a Muslim, only pretending to be a Christian for political appearances? Is he a hopeless socialist, driven to the extreme left by sick characters like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright?
Obama’s defenders claim that these questions only come up because of the president’s race. But that’s not it at all. These questions arise because Obama has proven many times over that he does not believe in traditional American values. So it’s only natural that critics might want to understand exactly where his bizarre values actually come from. And when you follow these questions to their natural conclusions, you find controversial answers. It’s as simple as that.
Take ConnectHome, the latest bright idea to come from this White House. Not content with making sure low-income individuals got a free cell phone from the government, Obama now wants them to get subsidized internet as well. The details of the program are not well fleshed out, but anyone who knows the mind of a tax-and-spend Democrat shouldn’t have to guess how it will all be funded. Someone has to pay for low-income communities to get access to high speed internet, and it damn sure won’t be the people living there.
When did we have a national referendum asking taxpayers if they wanted to have their money used for this purpose? Even if Obama manages to find some tricky way of funding this program without congressional approval, the money is still coming from those who work and going to those who don’t. That’s a pattern that has persisted for too long in this country, and the social safety net has been stretched well beyond the breaking point.
Where does it end? If high speed internet is a basic human right, then what isn’t? Should every American be entitled to free cable television? A free iPad? Free e-cigarettes? A subsidized Netflix subscription? Where is the FREE STUFF amendment to the Constitution that lists all of this?
Oh wait, there isn’t one. The Constitution promises each American life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but it does not promise to give you something for nothing. That’s because this country was built by men who had little tolerance for those who refused to help themselves. They would probably not look kindly on anyone who couldn’t scrape together an extra $50 a month for internet access. Matter of fact, if you’re that…incapable…you should probably be under full-time medical supervision.
Or…you could take advantage of your local library. You could live with a cheaper, slower internet connection until your circumstances improve. You could do without internet, as people have done since the beginning of time. You could even sit down with a pen and a piece of paper and brainstorm a hundred different ways to make $50 over the course of 30 days.
Or you could stick your hand out and wait for someone else to fill it. Why work hard when you don’t have to? Obama’s got your back. Keep voting Democrat and everything will be just fine.
