Trump on Democrat Memo: Only “Confirms all of the Terrible Things” FBI Did
President Donald Trump wasted no time dropping his opinion of the highly-awaited “Democrat Memo” on Saturday, blasting it on Twitter as a farce that only corroborated the worst allegations of the Republican version.
“The Democrat memo response on government surveillance is a total political and legal BUST,” he wrote. “Just confirms all of the terrible things that were done. SO ILLEGAL!”
In another tweet, Trump said, “Dem Memo: FBI did not disclose who the clients were – the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Wow!”
Trump is of course referring to the infamous “dossier” that the FBI used to get a surveillance warrant on former campaign adviser Carter Page. And indeed, the Democrat memo confirms what the Republican memo alleged – that the FBI did not fully explain to the FISA court that they were basing their application on a document that had been bought and paid for by Hillary Clinton and friends. If they could not do this, of course, it is only because the FBI DID NOT do this. You can bet your bottom dollar that the House Democrats behind this memo would have gone to the ends of the earth to prove to the public that the FBI and the Obama administration did everything by the book. The fact that the rebuttal memo was so weak – so ultimately damning to their own cause – shows you that there is no way to rehabilitate this cancerous investigation.
In a statement, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders went further, excoriating the Democrats for obfuscating serious issues of intelligence community abuse with a political memo that resolves none of the questions raised by Nunes.
“This politically driven document fails to answer serious concerns raised by the Majority’s memorandum about the use of partisan opposition research from one candidate, loaded with uncorroborated allegations, as a basis to ask a court to approve surveillance of a former associate of another candidate, at the height of a presidential campaign,” Sanders said. “As the Majority’s memorandum stated, the FISA judge was never informed that Hillary Clinton and the DNC funded the dossier that was a basis for the Department of Justice’s FISA application. In addition, the Minority’s memo fails to even address the fact that the Deputy FBI Director told the Committee that had it not been for the dossier, no surveillance order would have been sought.”
We would ordinarily expect that this failure of a memo response would herald the collapse of the Democrat narrative, the Trump/Russia investigation, and all of the hyperpartisan silliness that the left has been using to delegitimize the duly-elected president. Unfortunately, in an era where the mainstream media refuses to print the truth, Schiff and his cronies will get to escape into the night with their lies. We can only hope that every time this happens, a little more light shines through the darkness and a few more American voters begin to see through the farce that these Democrats are foisting upon them.
