President Trump teed off on House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) this weekend, insisting that the Democrat in charge of running the impeachment inquiry could not be trusted to be straight with the American people. While House Democrats voted on Thursday to formalize the impeachment process and release transcripts of closed-door testimonies to the public in the coming days, Trump said that he wouldn’t put it past Schiff to creatively edit those transcripts before sending them out.
“If Shifty Adam Schiff, who is a corrupt politician who fraudulently made up what I said on the ‘call,’ is allowed to release transcripts of the Never Trumpers & others that are & were interviewed, he will change the words that were said to suit the Dems purposes,” Trump tweeted.
Instead of leaving it in Schiff’s hands alone, Trump said that Republicans “should give their own transcripts of the interviews to contrast with Schiff’s manipulated propaganda. House Republicans must have nothing to do with Shifty’s rendition of those interviews. He is a proven liar, leaker & freak who is really the one who should be impeached!”
We’re not sure about that (but definitely not discounting it), but we are sure that Schiff is a leaker and a liar. He has been quite brazen about both, leaking choice bits of helpful testimony from these Soviet-style hearings, and lying about his relationship with the “whistleblower” who kicked this whole impeachment inquiry off.
He also infamously lied in Congress when he characterized Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a manner bearing almost no resemblance to the transcript. Later saying that his version of the call was a “parody,” Schiff certainly was not trying to make anyone laugh. He was trying to get the public to believe that there was an impeachable offense in a call where there plainly was none.
Even with all of that on the table, it doesn’t quite get to the heart of just how dastardly this Democrat really is. Mind you, Adam Schiff ran around for nearly two solid years promising the public that he was privy to Trump/Russia evidence that the rest of us weren’t. In countless media interviews, Schiff hinted, suggested, or outright said that he had conclusive proof of collusion. All of that turned out to be a complete lie – one that he has yet to reckon with or apologize for.
When you take all of this into account, we don’t blame Trump for being suspicious about Schiff’s willingness to release fraudulent transcripts. The man is banking his whole political career on his ability to “get” Trump. He’ll stop at nothing.
