Democrats have been all over the map when it comes to Medicare-for-all, the Green New Deal, the situation in Venezuela, and many other pressing issues bubbling up from the current political climate. But if there’s one thing the whole party can get on board with, it’s killing innocent babies before they’ve had a chance to live. At least, that’s the only possible message we can take from Monday’s vote, in which every Senate Democrat – save three – voted to block legislation that would have required doctors to save a baby born alive after a botched abortion.
“The bill’s terms are simple,” said the legislation’s sponsor, Sen. Ben Sasse. “A child born during a botched abortion would be given the same level of care that would be provided to any other baby born at that same gestational stage. That’s it. This bill isn’t about abortion. I’m pro-life – unapologetically pro-life – but this bill is not actually about anything that limits abortion.”
But that argument was not good enough for Senate Democrats, who reflexively vote down any legislation that might potentially limit a woman’s “right” to kill her unborn child. Even if, you know, the child has actually been born. So while the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act won a majority vote in the Senate, the 53-44 tally was not enough to advance the bill past the Democratic filibuster.
Only Sen. Bob Casey, Sen. Doug Jones, and Sen. Joe Manchin were bold enough to actually say, “Yeah, a doctor should save an infant’s life.” That’s pretty depressing…and pretty telling about where the Democratic Party of 2019 is in terms of abortion extremism.
All the Senate Democrats currently running for president voted to block the bill. We certainly hope the media will force them to defend that vote as the campaign season progresses.
In a statement, Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser expressed her disgust at the vote.
“An overwhelming majority of voters are horrified by infanticide and want Congress to protect babies born alive during failed abortions,” she said. “But when forced to take a position on the record, not a single one of the top Senate Democrats running for president in 2020 could muster the basic decency to outlaw infanticide.”
With every passing year, it gets harder and harder for us to understand how anyone actually votes for this morally-bankrupt, diseased excuse for a political party. We know there’s a lot of low-information cluelessness out there, and we know there’s a lot of propaganda being thrown at young people these days, but damn it. This isn’t that hard. This is a clear choice between right and ugly, black-hearted wrong. Democrats stood up and proudly sided with evil. And anyone who votes for these sickos is now complicit.
