2020 Democrat Warns Congress: “Impeachment is a Loser”
2020 Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang has a solid online base of support with his platform of providing a universal basic income for every American, but he’s got about as much chance of being the next president as Baby Yoda. Even so, Yang has the sense to know that House Democrats are barking up the wrong tree in their pursuit of President Trump’s impeachment.
“It seems like all we can do is throw ineffective rocks at Donald Trump, and then it ends up leading unfortunately toward his reelection,” Yang told Rolling Stone this week. “I’m pro-impeachment, but this is going to be a loser. You need literally dozens of Republican senators to switch sides when the trial starts, which we’ve gotten zero indication is going to happen.”
Well, that could have something to do with the fact that Democrats have yet to make a convincing case that Trump actually did anything, much less anything that would warrant impeachment. The only people now calling for impeachment are the ones who were saying the same thing on the first day of Trump’s presidency.
“If all that happens is all of the Democrats are talking about impeachment that fails, then it seems like there is no vision,” Yang said.
Exactly. There’s the vision of a Trump-free America, and that’s about it. That is, incidentally, the same vision they promoted in 2016, and look how that turned out.
On Thursday, President Trump taunted the flailing Democrats.
“The Do Nothing Democrats had a historically bad day yesterday in the House. They have no Impeachment case and are demeaning our Country. But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy,” Trump tweeted. “Therefore I say, if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business.”
But for the Democrats, there IS no business. On the campaign trail, they spend their days and nights talking about idiotic proposals that will never come to pass like Medicare for All and decriminalized borders. On Capitol Hill, they talk about how awful it is that our close, indispensable ally (?), Ukraine, was done so wrong by our president. They wouldn’t know a legitimate political idea if it landed in their laps. They could change their name to The Anti-Trump Party without having to modify their platform at all.
MSNBC host Chris Matthews said in 2016 that if there’s a “Stop X movement, bet on X.” It was true then, and it’s still true today.
