2A Rights Repealed in This State – House APPROVES Bill!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – A new bill was passed by Washington House Democrats that would require a 10-day waiting period when purchasing firearms. According to the new bill, firearm dealers would first need to complete a background check on the individual and then wait 10 days before being allowed to sell or transfer a firearm.
Those who are looking to buy firearms would need to prove that they have completed a firearms safety training program within the last five years. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Liz Berry, of Seattle, following a request made by Gov. Jay Inslee’s office. On Tuesday it successfully passed in a 52-44 vote and is now going to be considered by the Senate.
Berry has argued that this 10-day waiting window is going to help reduce gun violence and could potentially “save lives.” As she pointed out there is research that shows the connection between when obtaining a firearm and how in the U.S. more than half of suicides are with a firearm. This window therefore could provide a cooling off period for the individual which stops them from making a rush decision.
Many Republicans have criticized the legislation, with Rep. Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen, stating that the bill would “impair your right to keep and bear a firearm.” He further argued that Washington state’s Constitution was even more specific than the federal constitution about gun ownership rights, which he believes are being trampled by this bill. He added that the bill would likely be legally challenged.
