A Man is Currently the Odds-On Favorite to Win Miss Universe 2018
According to The Blast, a transgender beauty pageant winner from Spain is the odds-on favorite to win the 2018 Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand. The website reports that major gambling sites like MrBookie have tallied up the odds for people who like to bet on esoteric contests like this, and “Angela Ponce,” the reigning Miss Universe Spain, is weighted at +600 to bring home the big crown.
The idea, we assume, is that the judges will want to make a “progressive” choice to bring more attention to their contest and, as a corollary, pat themselves on the back for being oh-so-open-minded when it comes to who can win a female beauty pageant. Like, why not a dude?
In an interview with the Associated Press in June, Ponce said that he was hoping to bring more attention to the subject of transgender suicide and other related crises.
“If my going through all this contributes to the world moving a little step forward, then that’s a personal crown that will always accompany me,” Ponce said.
According to People Magazine, Ponce has faced discrimination when rising through the beauty contestant ranks.
“The fashion industry likes to talk about freedom and creativity, but many times I’ve gone to a casting and they’ve given me the job, and then later my agency calls and says they’ve changed their minds, because they’ve found out I’m a trans woman,” Ponce said. “I would just burst into tears.”
Our favorite quote, though, comes from Time magazine. Ponce told them that she didn’t agree with the rap on pageants – that they are sexist and so on.
“None of the contestants are forced to be there. I’m competing because it’s what I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl,” Ponce said.
We’re sure that feminists really appreciate this dude’s opinion on whether or not beauty pageants are sexist. We’re usually on the side that says feminists are ruining the country with their constant whining about gender norms and empowerment and so forth, but this transgender nonsense has us aligning ourselves more often than not with the TERFs – Trans-exclusionary radical feminists. Because while we may disagree with their politics 99% of the time, they are damn sure right about one thing: MEN AREN’T FRIGGIN’ WOMEN!
Mr. Ponce, you were never a “little girl.” And while you may very well win the Miss Universe contest this year, you will never, ever be a “miss.”
No hard feelings, bro.
