“A Very Sad Day in History”: White House Responds to Impeachment

In an interview with Breitbart News Daily on SiriusXM on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham told host Alex Marlow that House Democrats were moving to make it a “very sad day in history” with their partisan impeachment vote.

“It’s such a partisan issue right now, and this will be a partisan impeachment. This is going to change things forever. Future presidents will have to worry about this very thing – and that would be Republican or Democrat,” she said. “They are truly changing history because they don’t like his policies. It’s a very, very sad day.”

Grisham, speaking hours before the House of Representatives made President Trump only the third man in history to be impeached, said that Democrats were solely moving against the president out of a desire to “overturn the 2016 election.”

“From the very beginning, the Democrats have been calling for his impeachment – and that’s prior to his success,” she said. “Since then, he has had nothing but success, and they see what’s coming for 2020.

“It’s not just the president,” she continued. “The president noted in his letter that his family has been hurt by this. Here you’ve got a family – Mrs. Trump – who has been working so hard on behalf of the children of this country. You’ve got Ivanka Trump, who has been pushing relentlessly for paid child leave and women’s empowerment all over the world, and you’ve got Jared, who has been pushing for Middle East peace, for crying out loud. You’ve got a whole family who have been working really hard on behalf of this country and who continue to be abused and demonized by the Democrats. It’s just really unfortunate.”

To say it’s “unfortunate” is about as mild a way to put it as we can imagine. It’s a historic travesty, and every Democrat on Capitol Hill who voted for this sham ought to be ashamed of themselves. To go home and know – to a near-certainty – that this would not actually accomplish anything…well, that just makes it that much worse. The Democrats are posturing, grandstanding, and taking things to the extremes just so they have another talking point heading into the next election.

Our Founders never meant for a constitutionally-proscribed process to be abused in this way. It’s disgusting and it’s dirty, even for Washington in 2019.

A very sad day, indeed.
