Ben Shapiro: Democrats are “Openly Embracing Anti-Semitism”

We don’t know if Michigan voters are yet regretting their decision to send Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib to Congress on their behalf, but Democrats are beginning to realize their have a problem on their hands bigger than any “Alex from the Bronx.” Only a few days after inviting widespread, bipartisan condemnation for telling supporters that “we’re gonna impeach the motherf***er,” Tlaib is once again drawing the wrong kind of controversy. In other words, the kind of controversy that lets Americans know what the Democratic Party is really all about. Democrats HATE that.

To catch you up to speed, here’s the deal. A handful of freshmen to Congress – Tlaib among them – have been outspoken about their support of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. This movement takes a few forms, but the general idea is that supporters of the Palestinians should refuse to use Israeli products or invest in Israeli businesses until…well, this is where it gets tricky, because no one can say for sure what the “until” actually consists of. Some say the only requirement is that Israel give up their so-called occupation of Palestinian territory. Others insist they must vacate Jerusalem and leave it to the Palestinians. Still others are determined to see Israel wiped off the map entirely.

Tlaib and other Democrats are pitching a fit about a package of pro-Israel bills that Republicans are trying to get passed. Led in part by Sen. Marco Rubio, Republicans in the Senate have introduced an anti-BDS bill that would “increase protections for state and local governments in the United States that decide to divest from, prohibit investment in, and restrict contracting with companies knowingly engaged in commerce-related or investment-related BDS activity targeting Israel.”

This outraged Tlaib, who wrote: “They forgot what country they represent. This is the U.S. where boycotting is a right & part of our historical fight for freedom & equality. Maybe a refresher on our U.S. Constitution is in order, then get back to opening up our government instead of taking our rights away.”

If this feels like average political rhetoric, though, Rubio and others are warning that it is anything but. They are accusing Tlaib of engaging in anti-Semitic dog whistles that have a long history among enemies of the Jews and Israel. The accusation of Washington Jewish politicians having “dual loyalties” has been an unfortunate aspect of the rhetoric against Jews for a very long time.

In an op-ed, conservative writer Ben Shapiro said he wasn’t surprised, seeing as how “Democrats have soured on Israel and warmed to anti-Semitism.”

“The truth is that the Democratic Party has been flirting with, and in some cases openly embracing, anti-Semitism for years,” Shapiro wrote. “That’s why top members of the Democratic Party continue to kowtow to open anti-Semites like Linda Sarsour and Louis Farrakhan; it’s why the Democrats booed Jerusalem in the 2012 Democratic National Committee platform; it’s why the Obama administration routinely played public relations arm for the Iranian government; it’s why no major Democrat will go on record condemning Tlaib or Ilhan Omar.”

He makes a damn good point.

It’s also worth noting that while every liberal within fifty yards of a microphone suggested Donald Trump was somehow responsible for the synagogue shooting last year, we haven’t seen any of them criticize Tlaib for her tweet. It’s apparently okay to bash the Jewish people…as long as you do it from the left. Oh, and as long as you have Magic Muslim Protection.
