Biden Calls This Governor A WHAT?
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – President Biden on Wednesday referred to Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, who is Black, as “boy” during the opening remarks to IBEW union workers. Biden frequently uses the racially-charged term.
Biden started his speech by saying that Wess Moore is a “hell of a new governor.” He continued to praise Wes Moore saying that “the boy looked like he could still play.”
Biden has repeatedly used this term nonchalantly, frequently using it to refer to White individuals as well. Previously during a speech about student loan forgiveness, Biden had referred to Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., who is White, as a “boy.” At the time Biden had praised Coons for his education as he has both a law and a divinity degree. He concluded his remarks by saying “the boy can preach.”
This is not the only time he has referred to someone White by the term “boy.” In April he referred to former U.S. Secretary of the Army Patrick Murphy, saying that “the boy stays in shape.”
However, if placed in a different context the term “boy” can be considered derogatory as during the Jim Crow era Black men were frequently referred to as “boy” regardless of their age. This was meant to be an indication of inferiority and was used as a term to belittle them.
On Wednesday Biden used the term in an inappropriate context. This was not the first time he had referred to someone Black as “boy” as he had previously called a Black adviser by the term during a Federal Emergency Management Administration briefing.
