Biden To EXTEND “Pause” Once Again!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Student loan payments are expected to resume by the end of the summer; however, President Biden might still choose to further pause these payments.
When the COVID-19 pandemic first broke out, student loan payments were paused by the then administration; since then, the payment pause has been extended multiple times. President Biden had previously noted that the student loan payments were expected to start again at the beginning of 2023 and that there would not be an additional pause.
Currently, they are actually set to begin either 50 days after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the student debt forgiveness program or 60 days after June 30. The White House has not discussed what options they might pursue if the student loan forgiveness does not go through. However, some experts have stated that they believe another extension to the student loan payment pause might be on the horizon.
Rebecca Natow, assistant professor of educational leadership and policy at Hofstra University, noted that she thought another pause was on the table.
Rodell Mollineau, a Democratic strategist, also pointed out that this type of policy would be supported by a majority of Biden’s demographic, which could be important ahead of an election year.
Most borrowers have benefited from the nine separate extensions, which have essentially kept student loan payments paused since March 2020. The Biden administration has insisted that regardless of what happens with the student debt relief plan, borrowers will be required to start making payments towards their student loan debt 60 days after June 30.
