Biden’s Fake Confidence: I Don’t Need Obama’s Endorsement
If there’s anything that all Americans can agree on, it’s that we’re sick to death with inauthentic, lying, phony politicians. Even three years later, we’re pretty sure that Donald Trump’s abject refusal to “play a part” in his campaign was as responsible for his victory as anything else. Yeah, Trump can play fast and loose with the facts on occasion, but he’s not fundamentally phony the way most other politicians are. You might find him off-putting, arrogant, or guilty of any number of other sins, but you can’t accuse him of putting on an act. He is who he is.
Joe Biden tries to play a version of that character: The good ol’ boy who is just too down-to-earth to pull the wool over the eyes of the voters. But underneath his folksy exterior, he’s every bit as phony as any other stiff in a suit. Nowhere is it more obvious than when the subject of Barack Obama is brought up. Like, who on the planet Earth believes that Biden doesn’t crave the former president’s endorsement? The guy is practically running on a platform of being the closest thing to Obama that people can actually vote for. And we’re to believe he doesn’t care about getting that seal of approval? Let’s be serious.
Making matters worse, Biden’s remarks came at the start of his eight-day “No Malarkey” tour. Not a good way to kick it off, Joe.
From Politico:
Biden reiterated that he asked Obama not to endorse him, and he stuck by that stance even when asked whether he’d want Obama’s backing if the field narrowed to three people.
“No, because everyone knows I’m close with him,” Biden said. “I don’t need an Obama endorsement.”
Biden went on to say that as Obama’s vice presidential pick, he provided crucial relationships with the base of the Democratic Party, including with African Americans, and with voters in places such as Pennsylvania, Colorado, Virginia and Florida..
“I was the one who was sent in,” he said. “And the reason was, because all the polling and data showed that I had those relationships with the base of the Democratic Party as well as African-Americans. And so I did as many African Americans events as Barack did.”
Hmm, so Biden not only wants us to believe that he’s just fine without an Obama endorsement, he wants us to understand that he was responsible for getting Obama a historic percentage of the black vote in 2008?
Okay. Whatever you say, dude.
