Bill PROPOSED Amid Crime Rise – Congress Staff To Carry Weapons
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Friday, Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., introduced new legislation that would enable congressional employees to carry weapons in self-defense to and from Capitol Hill.
The Safe Storage Lockers for House Office Buildings Act would allow workers to transport their weapons with them during transit. From there the weapons would be stored in lockers that would be installed and managed by the Capitol Police at the entrance of House office buildings.
In Washington, D.C., individuals are legally allowed to carry weapons used for self-defense and use them when needed. These weapons include self-defense sprays, stun guns, and concealed firearms. However, both D.C. and federal law don’t allow weapons to be brought into federal buildings. This essentially means that all those employed in federal buildings are not allowed to carry concealed weapons during their commute to and from work.
Steube’s bill would change that as the lockers would provide an area for those weapons to be stored before the workers needed to enter the Capitol buildings. In a statement, Steube pointed out that due to the increased crime rates in D.C., this bill is necessary. He further proceeded to blame Democrat policies for being “soft on crime.” He further stated that this was to blame for crime rates increasing. The bill as he noted would help provide workers with the tools to protect themselves in this environment.
