Bloomberg Officially Jumps to the Democrats, Endorses Hillary
Michael Bloomberg, once a Democrat, switched to the Republican Party to run for mayor of New York City…before proceeding to establish nanny-state rules concerning 2-liter sodas. After leaving the mayor’s office, Bloomberg has focused much of his energy on gun control. The billionaire has pumped money into a group called Everytown for Gun Safety in an attempt to change gun laws in all fifty states.
Seeing as how he has spent the majority of the 21st century working to limit individual freedom, it should probably come as no surprise that Bloomberg chose to endorse Hillary Clinton for president. Bloomberg, who was briefly considering a third-party run of his own in 2016, has criticized Donald Trump on many occasions over the last twelve months.
Discussing Trump’s plans to pause Muslim immigration and build a wall along the Mexican border, Bloomberg wrote, “These moves would divide us at home and compromise our moral leadership around the world. The end result would be to embolden our enemies, threaten the security of our allies, and put our own men and women in uniform at greater risk.”
Of course, it remains to be seen if Bloomberg actually has any star power when his endorsement hits. He’s a well-known figure, but his leap from political party from political party has not made him well-loved in any particular community. Conservatives have despised him for years because of his insidious war against the Second Amendment. Liberals are wary of his approach to policing, which was considerably more forceful than Democrats are advocating in 2016.
But in the end, regardless of his ideological affiliations, Bloomberg is unlikely to sway any voters still on the fence. At the Democratic National Convention, that is. He still retains control over a rather significant media empire, and he will undoubtedly use his editorial influence to make sure readers of Bloomberg get a biased view of the election.
In the meantime, though, this is a small story being granted priority status by a media eager to move beyond leaked DNC emails. God, it’s fun to watch these people scramble!
