(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Brandon Johnson, Chicago’s new Democratic mayor, made a controversial comparison in his Monday inauguration speech between the murder of a police officer and the death of an armed teen that was shot by the police.

In the past, Johnson has received a lot of criticism because of his support of the “defund the police movement.” During his speech, he stated that both the families of Adam Toledo and Officer Preston were feeling the same pain.

Chicago Police Officer Areanah Preston, 24, was shot to death on May 6 outside of her home after returning from a night shift. Adam Toledo, 13, was shot during a foot pursuit in March 2021 by a police officer. Toledo was armed at the time.

Toledo’s shooting was particularly significant because, in the body cam footage released from the pursuit, Toledo appears to have dropped the gun he was holding before being shot. The officer who called for an ambulance said over the radio, “Shots fired.” Following his death, there were protests across the nation, with many calling for a moratorium on foot pursuits. The officer responsible for shooting Toledo did not face any charges.

In Preston’s murder case, the police have apprehended five persons of interest and charged four teens with murder. These were Trevell Breeland, 19; Joseph Brooks, 19; Jakwon Buchanan, 18; and a 16-year-old juvenile whose name was not made public. All four are currently being held without bail.

Johnson has not clarified his comments or exactly what he meant.
