Chelsea Clinton Comes to Barron Trump’s Defense
A Comedy Central writer named Stephen Spinola joked: “Barron Trump looks like a very handsome date-rapist-to-be.”
An SNL writer named Katie Rich joked: “Barron Trump will be this country’s first homeschool shooter.”
And Rosie O’Donnell took it upon herself to casually diagnose Donald Trump’s young son with autism.
After letting us know in very clear terms for eight years that they would not tolerate even the slightest criticism or off-color humor directed at Sasha and Malia Obama, the left has apparently decided that when it comes to Barron Trump, it’s open season.
But this is nothing new, now is it? Remember David Letterman’s caustic jokes about Sarah Palin’s family? Remember the fun comedians had with the Bush twins and their partying? Remember all the “creepy” jokes about Mitt Romney’s adult children? When it comes to the children of politicians, there is a very clear double-standard.
If there’s an exception to the rule, it would be Chelsea Clinton, who knows what it’s like to grow up under the harsh spotlight of the presidency. And it was Chelsea who came to Barron’s defense this weekend.
“Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does – to be a kid,” Clinton tweeted on Sunday. “Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids.”
She had to add that last part to preserve her partisan street cred, but we can give her a pass on that.
Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka Trump are fair game. They supported their father’s run for president, they campaigned for him, and they have not shied away from the spotlight. They are adults, and they are every bit as much a part of this as Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, and Kellyanne Conway.
But Barron didn’t ask to be part of this, and he certainly does not deserve to be mocked by comedians who don’t have the slightest shred of decency. Donald and Melania have gone out of their way to keep him out of the spotlight, but even if Trump dragged him on stage at every rally, it wouldn’t give the left the license to call him a date rapist or a school shooter. It’s a little strange that this needs to be said, but there you have it.
Over the coming weeks, months, and years, many Americans are going to get their first real look at the true nature of liberalism. In the left’s manic desire to hurt Trump, they are going to show us their dark hearts. Hopefully, it will serve as a wake-up call.
