According to a new feature story in Donald Trump’s favorite magazine, Vanity Fair, people inside the Hillary Clinton camp are blaming Huma Abedin for costing the former secretary of state the election.
Well, Huma…and Russia…and James Comey…and deplorables…and Obama…and racist white men…
But apparently, all of those other scapegoats come in second to the anger directed toward Hillary’s closest aides.
“The real anger is toward Hillary’s inner circle,” one Clinton friend told the magazine. “They reinforced all the bad habits.”
Bad habits like…ignoring anyone who couldn’t be exploited due to their minority status? Bad habits like emailing classified material from an unsecured server? Bad habits like lying to the American people? Selling State Department access to the highest Clinton Foundation bidder? Were these the bad habits that Clinton’s inner circle reinforced?
Another Clinton insider told Vanity Fair that Abedin was getting a little too comfortable with the spotlight.
“She was enjoying the red carpet and enjoying the photo spreads much too much in my opinion,” they said. “She enjoyed being a celebrity too much.”
Asked what might become of Abedin now that she won’t be able to ride Hillary’s coattails into the West Wing, a Clinton confidant said it was at the bottom of their list of concerns.
“Maybe I’m just pissed off, but I really don’t give a s**t about what happens to Huma to be honest with you,” they told the magazine.
At the root of all of this blaming, though, is a complete unwillingness on the part of Clinton, her friends, and many in the Democratic Party to simply admit: Hey, we got our butts kicked. It happens. Let’s move on.
They just can’t do it. They look at the Clinton-Trump matchup on paper, they look at all the money they poured into this campaign, they look at all the polls, and they just can’t admit the truth. They can’t bear to imagine that Donald Trump was plainly a better candidate who had a message that more people wanted to hear. They can’t admit that Hillary Clinton was a poor candidate on her own who didn’t need Vladimir Putin to help her fail.
