Congress PROMISES Action on GOP Censorship
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – House Speaker McCarthy, R-Calif., said the dropping of Newsmax by DirecTV and AT&T, the majority owner, is “very concerning.” McCarthy further added that Congress will hold a hearing about the matter.
On Newsmax’s “Spicer & Co.”, Speaker Boehner told hosts Sean Spicer and Lyndsay Keith that action would be taken to ensure that everyone has access to the news channels they prefer to get their information from.
The drop of Newsmax from DirecTV was a shock for Republicans and conservatives across the United States, as Newsmax is the 4th highest-rated cable news channel. According to the latest reports, there are around 25 million Americans who watch the channel. This is why McCarthy has said that this case relates to free speech and that Newsmax should not have to suffer just for being a conservative news outlet.
However, DirecTV has maintained that the reason for the de-platforming of Newsmax was entirely related to finances, claiming that the higher fees that Newsmax was requesting would not allow them to keep their current prices in place for users. According to reports DirecTV refused to negotiate with Newsmax saying that they would not agree to pay any licensing fees.
Still, many have pointed out that Newsmax is not the only conservative channel to have been cut. In fact, the OAN network was also de-platformed last April.
