Controversy ERUPTS – GOP Accused of Racism in New Move!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – The Republican-controlled House Oversight and Accountability Committee has disbanded the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, which was previously focused on voting rights and criminal justice reform policies.
During a Tuesday committee meeting, Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said that the dissolution of the subcommittee did not mean that these topics would not be addressed by the committee. He added that even without the subcommittee the committee was able to hold a hearing on anything deemed necessary.
A panel spokesperson said that the Oversight Republicans wanted to focus on creating more efficiency in the panel, and wanted to ensure that the subcommittees could be better focused on completing their mission and providing meaningful changes and reforms that would benefit the American people.
However, not everyone is in support of this decision. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) is pushing for the subcommittee to be reinstated as its dissolution sends the message to the American people that voting and civil rights will not be prioritized in the 118th Congress.
Crockett, a civil rights attorney, appointed to the Oversight Committee on Friday also called the decision “reckless and cruel.” She added that the committee instead of focusing on probes into the President’s family should be focused on oversight and investigations dealing with the murder of innocent Americans by police enforcement.
Crockett also proceeded to introduce an amendment for the subcommittee to be reinstated. The amendment also has the support of ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).
