Cruz: Pelosi’s Delay is a “Sign of Weakness” From House Democrats
In an interview with Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” program, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that he was astounded by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to sit on the successful impeachment vote rather than transmit the articles over to the Senate.
“So, Nancy Pelosi said after the impeachment that maybe she’ll sit on the articles of impeachment before sending it over to you and your colleagues in the Senate,” host Maria Bartiromo said. “Can she do that?”
“You know, you can’t make this up,” Cruz replied. “Listen, I think this is a sign of weakness, that this is a sign she understands just how weak these articles are. And these articles of impeachment that they actually voted on were really an admission of failure. For months, they had been promising all of this evidence of criminal activity. For months, they’ve been talking about bribery, they’ve been talking about quid pro quo, but then they heard all the evidence, and they’ve got no evidence of it.
“And these articles don’t allege any crime,” Cruz continued. “This is the first time in the history of our country that a president has been impeached without a single article alleging any criminal conduct. They don’t allege any crime; they don’t even allege any federal law that was violated. This was, at the end of the day, a political response because Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats hate the president.”
Well, exactly. It strikes us that, at the end of the day, there’s very little difference between this “impeachment” and any other Democrat-pushed, party-line vote that has taken place this year in the House of Representatives. If Pelosi isn’t going to take the next step and initiate a trial in the Senate, then this just amounts of an act of partisan pandering. Hey, rabid Democrat voters, look what we did! Look how happy we made Rashida Tlaib! Isn’t that all that really matters in the end?
At this point, even Democrats and liberal pundits are scratching their heads and wondering what Pelosi hopes to really gain from this delay. It’s a joke. As Mitch McConnell himself said, how do Democrats gain themselves any leverage by withholding something that Senate Republicans don’t want in the first place? This is political malpractice, a constitutional mockery, and the absolute height of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
At a time when Democrats ought to be doing everything they can to convince the American people that they’re ready to lead the country, they are doing the exact opposite. It’s baffling.
