Democrats Accuse House GOP Of What?
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – House Democrats are blasting the incoming GOP majority claiming that their priorities for the 118th Congress are embedded in the “extreme MAGA” agenda.
Incoming House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, of New York, released a statement on Monday in which he said that “Extreme MAGA Republicans” had not learned from their underwhelming performance in the midterm elections. He added that instead of them focusing on how to fix the problems faced by everyday American people, they instead are focusing on partisan politics.
He added that House Democrats would continue to work towards creating lower costs of living, better-paying jobs, and safer communities, but that those goals did not align with the House Republicans’ agenda. House Republicans, as he argued, are focused on restricting reproductive freedom and abortion care. He also noted that they are focused on creating more tax cuts for the “wealthy, well-off, and well-connected.”
The GOP rules package that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., sent to other representatives on Sunday included both tax cuts and a new Judiciary subcommittee that would lead investigations against the Biden administration. There would also be work to stop congressional staff from unionizing.
Among McCarthy’s concessions in the rule package, one could also find his promise to stop proxy voting and virtual participation in hearings and voices, as well as creating a platform for representatives to have a vote of no-confidence against the Speaker.
According to previous House rules, a member of the House leadership from the majority party would need to be the one to start a vote that would remove the current speaker from their position.
Lawmakers elected to the 118th Congress held their first meeting on Tuesday at noon where they voted on the House speaker.
