Democrats Are Shocked to See How Rich Barack Obama Actually Is

Democrats didn’t raise a peep over the last eight years watching President Barack Obama gallivant all over creation with his family on the taxpayer dime. As long as he was still selling them his man of the people song-and-dance, they were willing to forgive him for his worldwide search for the finest golf courses the federal government could afford. But now that he’s a private citizen again, flush with cash from an enormous book deal, a few high-priced speeches to Wall Street, and God only knows what other sources of income, his lavish vacations are starting to irritate some in the liberal base. According to a feature story on FoxNews.com, Democrats and activists are “growing increasingly frustrated” with the former president’s “seemingly endless tour of millionaire and billionaire luxury retreats.”

Since leaving office in late January, Obama has visited late actor Marlon Brando’s private island; the Four Seasons in Bali — where rooms cost upward of $2,000 per night; Indonesia; a Palm Springs estate; Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island; the exclusive Mid Pacific Country Club in Oahu; the 13th-century Borgo Finocchieto in Tuscany; and the Rising Sun, Hollywood studio mogul David Geffen’s private yacht.

“These are some of the most luxurious travel destinations in the world. Many of our clients spend tens of thousands of dollars or more to stay at these resorts, which cater to the most discriminating and demanding guests,” said Kendra Thornton, travel expert and owner of luxury travel agency Royal Travel. “For example, Necker Island has a nightly price tag of $80,000. Anyone who stays at these properties does so because they want the best of the best.”

Fox News spoke to a former adviser to Jimmy Carter who said Obama’s in-your-face wealth was not in keeping with the left’s overall message to the poor and working class.

“These trips are like the lifestyles of the rich and famous,” said Pat Caddell. “I think the Bernie Sanders wing of the party, when they see President Obama, whom they instinctively want to defend being the corporatist president, I think it makes the base uneasy.”

Well, it should. It should make them uneasy. Not because Obama is accidentally spending too much money around the world or because he’s suddenly changed into a bona fide “one percenter,” but because he was NEVER the guy they thought he was. It was all a sham from the beginning, and that was clear with every moment of his presidency. Obama has ALWAYS craved one thing and one thing only: Money and fame. And every decision he made over the course of his presidency was designed to make sure that his legacy as “first black president” was one they would be proud of back in his ultra-liberal hometown of Chicago.

But hey, we say: Go nuts. Visit every private island and re-imagined chateau in the world. If it keeps you out of American politics (save for the occasional, no one cares Facebook post), we hope you’re having an absolute blast.

Might want to remember, though: You’re actually going to have to pay the bills yourself this time.
