(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Wednesday, Democrats were heard laughing on the House floor after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who was presiding over the chamber, called for decorum.
During the debate on the House floor, the Democrats were heckling House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was delivering his remarks about the debt ceiling increase. This has been a topic that has received a lot of attention recently as the GOP is negotiating with the White House to agree to a debt ceiling increase. In his remarks, Scalise started by noting that he was encouraging the Senate to actually “take up the bill” and proceeded to call for President Biden to engage more with the issue.
He then temporarily paused his speech so as to react to the yelling that had erupted. It is unclear where the shouting had come from or what the lawmaker had shouted.
Greene proceeded to pound her gavel and ask for order. Scalise also asked for the house to be in order and for the Democrats to show “some decorum.”
Only seconds later, Greene also called for “decorum,” which is when the Democrats started laughing. Many members, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Cori Bush (D-Mo.), even stood up and shouted.
Greene proceeded to hit her gavel multiple times. This intense reaction from the Democrats was predominantly because Greene is known for similar behavior that often takes place whenever she is present in the House. In fact, during the State of the Union address in February, Greene notably shouted “liar” while President Biden was delivering his speech.
