DOJ Takes NEW Steps Against Trump!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith has taken new steps in the investigation into the classified and sensitive documents found in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate by compelling Evan Corcoran, Trump’s attorney, to testify before a grand jury.
Corcoran has previously answered a number of questions asked by the Washington, D.C. grand jury investigating the case. However, certain questions remained unanswered due to the attorney-client privilege that protects the confidentiality of the legal communications between a lawyer and a client.
There are exceptions to the cases in which attorney-client privileges apply, such as in the cases of crime fraud. This means that a lawyer cannot resort to attorney-client privileges if their client is trying to cover up or commit a crime.
The Department of Justice has alleged in a sealed motion to Beryl Howell, chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Washington, that in this case, the crime-fraud exception would apply as Trump and his allies allegedly used Corcoran’s service in order to commit a crime.
Andrew Lieb, attorney and managing partner of Lieb at Law, P.C., told Newsweek that this move is a big escalation from Smith as he is looking to avoid having Trump’s lawyers not provide answers to questions.
Depending on Judge Howell’s finding Trump’s attorney might no longer be protected by attorney-client privileges. Lieb also pointed out that without a ruling in favor of Smith in this case there was “no point” in the special counsel trying to question Trump’s attorney as he would constantly bring up attorney-client privilege and not give answers to the questions asked.
