Gingrich Accuses Democrats of “Vicious Character Assassination” Against Trump
In an interview with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity on Wednesday night, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich said that Democrats were engaged in nothing less than “vicious character assassination” in their war against President Donald Trump.
Responding to the news that the House Judiciary Committee was requesting documents from more than 80 of Trump’s associates, Gingrich said that Democrats were now going well beyond their proper role of federal oversight by delving into the president’s career and personal life he led before getting into politics.
“They’re basically saying, ‘If you worked for Donald Trump as a private citizen, we’re going to try to destroy you. We’re going to make you hire lawyers, we’re going to make you go through public humiliation’,” Gingrich said. “I mean, these are normal, everyday folks, who are not in the political arena, they’re getting called in front of some of these committees, and the most radical, vicious, nasty liberal Democrats are going to feel like they have a right to beat them up, to humiliate them, to lecture them.”
In a tweet this week, President Trump scolded Rep. Jerrold Nadler and his fellow Democrats on the Hill, accusing them of abdicating their constitutional duties in favor of political harassment.
“Now that they realize the only Collusion with Russia was done by Crooked Hillary Clinton & the Democrats, Nadler, Schiff and the Dem heads of the Committees have gone stone cold CRAZY,” Trump wrote. “81 letters sent to innocent people to harass them. They won’t get ANYTHING done for our Country!”
On Fox News, Gingrich concurred, accusing the Democrats of playing out a hateful vendetta they’ve had against Trump since the election.
“We have never seen – not since the Civil War – this kind of deliberate, vicious character assassination,” he said.
In a separate interview on Fox News, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that the Democrats’ focus on investigating every aspect of Donald Trump’s life was a sign that they lacked any unifying message heading into the 2020 election.
“It is an absolute embarrassment that members of Congress are using all their time and resources attacking the president when they should be looking to solve problems that this country has, like the president is doing,” Sanders said.
President Trump strikes us as ready, willing, and able to work with Democrats to get bipartisan legislation done on the subjects of infrastructure, healthcare, and immigration, but the party has rebuffed any attempts to work across the aisle. They are solely focused on a two-pronged agenda of obstruction and investigation…with an unappetizing side dish of legislation aimed directly at their liberal base. Legislation that is going nowhere fast. Were they elected to sit on their hands for two years and play games with the president? Or were they elected to govern?
We honestly don’t know, because we can’t understand why anyone would vote for any of these idiots in the first place.
