(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has alleged that former President Trump deployed “Democrat attacks” against him over his past stance on entitlement programs. In an interview with Newsmax, DeSantis claims that these attacks are not something that anyone really “buys.” He proceeded to add that Trump himself, in one of his books, had written about increasing the Social Security eligibility age to 70.

Trump has launched a number of attacks against DeSantis recently in anticipation of the governor joining the 2024 GOP primary. DeSantis managed to successfully win his reelection campaign by a large margin, which helped elevate his position in a hypothetical GOP primary. On this particular occasion, Trump’s campaign attacked DeSantis for supporting a GOP budget proposal during his time in Congress that would have increased the Social Security eligibility age to 70.

The debate over entitlement programs, including Social Security and Medicare, and their solvency has taken center stage in recent months. Trump has maintained that Republicans need to leave the programs alone.

According to the most recent federal reports, the Social Security trust funds are going to run out by 2034, at which point there would be an automatic cut in the benefits. In the interview, DeSantis argued that the Republicans needed to discuss what changes needed to be made to the programs, adding that he was not referring to any changes that would affect senior citizens currently.

Last month, a pro-DeSantis super PAC launched a TV ad in which they defended DeSantis’ stance on Social Security while also condemning Trump for his attack.
