Grisham: If Officials Won’t Carry Out Trump’s Agenda, They Should Resign
In an interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson at the end of the first day of public impeachment hearings, White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said that if officials at the State Department aren’t willing to carry out President Trump’s agenda, they should do the nation a favor and resign from their posts.
After Carlson noted that some portion of Foreign Service officials did not seem to like Trump’s foreign policy principles, Grisham agreed.
“Yeah,” she said. “It’s not great, and that’s a part of the problem we are having. There is no reason that anybody in our government across our administration should be actively working against the president, especially a president that is doing so well for the country.”
Carlson said it was his understanding of the Constitution that the legitimacy of the federal government came from the will of the people – the voters, in other words. Therefore, unelected service officials should abide by that will.
“Aren’t they constitutionally bound to carry out the foreign policy of the president?” he asked.
“Absolutely,” Grisham said. “If they aren’t ready to do that then they need to resign. It’s as simple as that. It’s clear people aren’t happy with the result of the 2016 election and they are trying to stop the win we are going to have in the 2020 election. And we are ready for that. That’s fine.”
Grisham also turned her attention to one of the more absurd moments of Wednesday’s hearing. That was when Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL), all too aware of how thin the Democrats case for impeachment was, made the idiotic case that hearsay evidence was more powerful than direct testimony.
“A primer on hearsay: I think the American public needs to be reminded that countless people have been convicted on hearsay, because the courts have routinely allowed and created, needed exceptions to hearsay,” he said. “Hearsay can be much better evidence than direct as we have learned in painful instances.”
Grisham could hardly hold back her laughter.
“I don’t know how that’s even possible,” she said. “Today was a joke. It was all a sham.”
Well, we knew that’s what it would be going into this week. If there is any surprise at all, it is the extent to which Democrats are willing to lie, obfuscate, and deceive to get what they want.
Thank God for a Republican-controlled Senate.
