‘He Shot My Arm Off’: Armed 80-Year-Old Store Owner Prevents Robbery

On Sunday July 31 at 2:45 a.m. in Norco, California, four male suspects wearing facial coverings and hoods pulled up to Norco Market & Liquor store in a black BMV X3 SUV. One of the suspects entered the establishment brandishing a rifle.

CBS Los Angeles reports that 80-year-old storeowner Craig Cope had seen the suspects exiting the vehicle outside his store via surveillance cameras. An employee of Cope’s, Marnie Tapia, claims, “he saw them coming,” which prompted him to arm himself with the shotgun that he keeps behind the counter.

In the footage of the exchange, Cope can be heard offering a brief warning. With the suspect continuing to aim his rifle at Cope, the storeowner then opened fire, hitting the would-be robber in the arm.

The wounded suspect then fled back to the vehicle, screaming, “he shot my arm off, he shot my arm off.”

An 80-year-old store owner who defended himself against armed robbers talks about his experience:

After scaring off the would-be robbers, Cope suffered a heart attack, though is reportedly recovering.

While the wounded suspect, yet to be named by officials, still remains hospitalized and in critical condition, the other three suspects were taken into police custody in the hospital parking lot and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery and conspiracy. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Justin Johnson, 22, of Inglewood, Jamar Williams, 27, of Los Angeles, and Davon Broadus, 24, of Las Vegas, are being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

The suspects’ vehicle was reported stolen and is said by police to have contained numerous stolen firearms.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has noted that Cope is a “lawfully armed member of our community” and that he “prevented a violent crime and ensured their own safety, while being confronted with multiple armed suspects.”

Marnie Tapia told ABC7 that Cope and his team had been warned ahead of time by the Sheriff’s Department concerning crimes of this sort in the area: “Just be on your toes … [Cope] was on his toes, thank God.”

According to Neighborhood Scout, a resident of Norco has a 1 in 675 chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime. In the broader Los Angeles area, the likelihood of becoming a victim of a property crime is 1 in 44.

Good going by the store owner! Most of the time, the police just show to take a report!

“You Loot, I Shoot!” Qualifies for a Marksmanship award no doubt! Too bad all armed robberies don’t end up with the crooks arm “shot off”.

The robber thug will probably sue for ruining his livelihood. He’ll sue in a liberal court and win. We need to get rid of the liberal judges and DA’s first. Unfortunately, they are bought and paid for by dirty money. If one gets voted out, more will be ready to replace him/her.

Good, you have no business robbing the store! Too bad he didn’t go for the head and get a criminal off the street. We need to get this country straightwned out and get rid of the gutter trash roaming the streets of this country since this administration cannot seem to do their jobs by putting the crap away for good!

Watch Newsom go after the clerk for brandishing a firearm. Anyone want to bet how long it takes for the scum to be back on the street?

You haven’t lived until you’ve been held up at gun point! More people should have that experience then there would be more in favor of gun ownership!

Good for the 80 year old store owner!
A part of ‘the Greatest Generation’ that doesn’t take crap from thugs.
If more people stand up against the criminals, they might think twice before trying to rob someone but then again, criminals don’t think.

Nothing beats a short barreled shot gun. Makes a dandy club to cave their heads in of you run out of bang too. …. Shotgun 1,,,,”Assault Rifle 0.

And on that subject, it just shows how useless Queen Nancy’s assault Rifle Ban works. None of the bad guys weapons were purchased legally. They even illegally parked in the handicap parking place. Crooks don’t follow the law,,,,good thing the Store owner wasn’t blocked from buying and owning a weapon or he might have been the one in teh hospital, or morgue.

Don’t screw with us old guys (I’m pushing 76) We’d just as soon kill a punk kid as look at him. We got to be cold blooded in the Army, not from playing vidio gamesand pretending to be hard core.
