(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed four bills that would change the lives of LGBTQ people living in the state. Advocacy groups have slammed this decision, calling it a “slate of hate.”

The new legislation signed by DeSantis banned gender-affirming medical care for transgender youths as well as expanded the parental rights law, which previously prohibited instruction in classrooms on sexual orientation and gender identity for children in kindergarten and early elementary. Restrictions on drag performances were also included in the new laws.

On Wednesday, during a signing ceremony in Tampa, DeSantis stated that the state was going to continue to be “a refuge of sanity and a citadel of normalcy.” These statements were made on a podium with the sign “Let Kids Be Kids.”

Florida’s Senate Bill 254, which bans gender-affirming health care, would block transgender minors from getting puberty blockers, hormone replacement therapy, and other surgeries. Under the new law, transgender adults would also need to go through additional regulations in order to be able to access gender-affirming health care in Florida. According to this new measure, children that have been either threatened to be subjected to or “subjected to” “sex-reassignment prescriptions or procedures” would be brought under the jurisdiction of the Florida court.

DeSantis further pointed out that only a few radical members of the healthcare community support gender-affirming care. However, major organizations, including the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics, have argued that gender-affirming care is often medically necessary and that they are against the government’s intruding on how medical care should be given.
