On Friday, in a speech to the Democratic Women’s Leadership Forum, failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made an astounding claim about her party.
“What do the Democrats stand for?” she asked.
Instead of admitting that the Democrats stand for nothing in particular, save giving free stuff away to minorities and making up crap about Donald Trump, she forged ahead with what has to go down as one of the top ten ridiculous quotes of the year.
“We stand for truth, for evidence and facts,” she said. “We have kind of an affection for evidence. We think it should inform out policies, because they’ll actually work better.”
For one of the biggest liars in American political history to stand up in front of a crowd and claim her party stands for “truth and evidence” is just too much to take.
“We have to win back the Congress,” she said. “I’ll be there with you every step of the way because we are going to take back the country we love.”
Not sure anyone in the Democratic Party will be pleased to hear that. Everyone from the New York Times to actual feminist leaders have begged Hillary Clinton to sit down and shut up, recognizing the simple fact that her very inability to GET OVER her loss to Trump is dragging the entire party down. At this point, if you take a look at her plummeting (yes, even from the depths from which they started) favorability numbers, her mere presence on the campaign trail is more hindrance than help. No one – not feminists, not Democrats, not progressives – wants to hear anymore from Crooked Hillary.
But that’s not likely to change anything for the former Secretary of State, who has always cared much more about her own ego than about the political fortunes of the left. Clinton is out for one person and one person only, and that’s herself. So if she wants to careen from embarrassing, scapegoating speech to embarrassing, scapegoating speech this fall, we doubt there’s anything DNC Chair Tom Perez, Nancy Pelosi, or Chuck Schumer will be able to do to stop her.
This is all to the good for Republicans, who can’t ask for a better villain to run against than Clinton. Please, Hillary, keep it going. Keep it going all the way to 2020.
