House Democrat: Impeachment Began When Trump “Was Running for Office”
Democrats in Washington are divided roughly into three quadrants.
There are the ones like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer – the people that have gotten extremely comfortable in their seats of power thanks to learning the ropes, learning what to say and when to say it, and whose primary desire is to win elections, maintain power, and live the cushy life of a D.C. politician.
Then there are the ideologues – your Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezes, your Elizabeth Warrens; the ones who are so entrenched in leftist philosophy and socialist indoctrination that they want to transform the nation to fit their ideals.
And then…you have people like Maxine Waters and Eric Swalwell – Democrats who bring to the Capitol little more than profound stupidity. These are individuals who became politicians because, well, what else were they going to do with their lives? They are fundamentally too dumb to make it in the private sector, so they decided to live a life of leisure on the taxpayer dime.
Rep. Al Green (D-TX) belongs to this latter group, and we’re sure Nancy Pelosi cringes every time he gets in front of a microphone. Because the problem with stupid people is you can never be sure what they’re going to say. Why, they might go on television and completely blow up the carefully-constructed lie you’ve been feeding the American people about the somber, reluctant impeachment vote!
Indeed.
“The argument goes like this,” MSNBC host Chris Hayes said in an interview with Green on Monday. “The Democrats wanted to impeach Donald Trump from day one, they cast about looking for a set of facts that they could plausibly use to do it, and all of it was pretextual and reverse-engineered to get to this point, and Exhibit One: Congressman Al Green, who has been calling for the man’s impeachment for two years now. What’s your response to that charge?”
The “right” answer to this question is some hem-haw BS about: The Ukraine scandal was too shocking an abuse for Democrats to turn a blind eye, and that’s why we had no choice but to impeach, Chris.
The stupid answer to this question is to blatantly admit that “the argument” Republicans are making is…exactly the truth!
“Well, the genesis of impeachment, to be very candid with you, was when the president was running for office and he had members of his own party to talk about his unfitness to hold office,” Green said. “So the president didn’t have the luxury of persons from his party having been on his side as it were throughout this entire ordeal.
“With those things in mind and with the president’s behavior before us, firing Mr. Comey who was investigating the intrusion of Russia into his campaign, our election — that was something that was not to be tolerated,” he continued. “And the president has continued to try to thwart the efforts of Congress to investigate with Mr. Mueller.”
Green concluded his wild destruction of Pelosi’s entire impeachment theme: “More specifically, I said that the president would claim that he was exonerated if there were impeachable actions that he performed and we did not move to perform our duty to impeach him. He has distorted the truth. He has twisted it and tried to crush it to earth.”
Putting aside the fact that none of what Green said there made any sense whatsoever, the main point is that he admitted that Democrats wanted to impeach this president BEFORE HE WAS EVEN PRESIDENT.
Now please, Nancy, tell us more about this “fair trial” you want in the Senate. We’re all ears.
