Congress SIGNS IT – Biden Has A Rebellion On His Hands!
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – Hundreds of Republican members of Congress have signed an amicus brief opposing the proposal by the Biden administration to forgive student loans. Later this month the Supreme Court is also expected to hear arguments relating to a student loan forgiveness plan case.
On Friday, Reps. Virginia Foxx (N.C.), the chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and Jeff Duncan (S.C.) led a brief in which they opposed the idea that the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (HEROES) Act could provide the legal authority for the administration to enact a broad student loan forgiveness program.
The Biden student loan forgiveness program would allow for up to $10,000 in forgiveness for federal student loans for everyone with an annual income below $125,000. Pell Grant recipients would be allowed to have up to $20,000 forgiven from their federal student loans.
So far, six states have filed a lawsuit against the plan, stating that the forgiveness program will lead to them losing out on tax revenue. The Biden administration has maintained that they don’t actually have any grounds to be filing a lawsuit and that the forgiveness plan is well within the authority provided by the HEROES Act, which lets the federal government forgive student debt when there is a national emergency going on.
Foxx in a recent statement said that what the administration was doing was “abusing” the HEROES Act. She further noted that the plan was a “political gambit” and that the administration should not be able to bypass the democratically elected Congress by implementing such a broad program.
