If a Comedian Hoisted Obama’s Severed “Head,” Would They EVER Be Welcomed Back?
If a right-wing comedian or celebrity posed for an “artistic” picture of themselves holding a realistic-looking severed head of former President Barack Obama, would they ever be welcomed back to the entertainment community? Or would they, indeed, be permanently outcast from any and all public appearances? Might they, in fact, fall under a Department of Justice/Secret Service investigation? No apology would suffice. No amount of time would be deemed sufficient. The Southern Poverty Law Center would deem the photos nothing short of a hate crime and we would have had months of NY Times think-pieces on the “assassination culture” brewing on the dangerous right-wing fringe. Do not doubt any of this.
Kathy Griffin, though, is ready for her comeback.
Having (apparently successfully) re-branded herself as the “victim” in all of this controversy, the redheaded comedian spoke to USA Today this week about her upcoming world tour and how she is still being unfairly blacklisted from getting a mainstream television gig. Not only has she withdrawn any hint of her apology for the disgusting photographs that landed her in so much hot water, she is building publicity for her 23-show comedy tour by promising that the entire incident will be among the topics she discusses on stage.
“Every day that passes, more people realize not only was my photo literally harmless, but completely legal,” Griffin told the paper. “The nice thing is that, after a year, several folks who were afraid to support me are (doing so) now, and that obviously signifies a real sea change. I have people like Mark Hamill tweeting, ‘Go see Kathy Griffin.’ I barely know Mark Hamill – I only met him one time. That’s a big deal for me.”
Griffin told USA Today that anyone getting tickets to her show should expect to hear lots of material about Trump and the current state of politics. And she bashed comedians who don’t turn their stand-up shows into liberal tirades against THE MAN.
“I do feel like this is such an anxiety-ridden time for everyone that there is a thirst for all kinds of comedy,” Griffin said. “And look, if you want to not hear about Trump at all, go see Kevin Hart. He doesn’t even mention Trump. I personally think that’s a pussy move because he’s a black man. But I guess he’s selling more tickets than I ever will.”
Guess so.
But the fact that you’re selling any tickets at all is proof that you’re more or less right – people don’t see what you did as that “big of a deal.” And the reason they don’t is because they have been taught, day after media-saturated day to despise this president with every fiber of their being. Trump has been de-humanized by this so-called Resistance, and that makes it okay to wish death upon him or make light of his beheading.
A sick enough mind might find justification to go even further. Live with that, liberal apologists.
Live with that, Kathy.
