Democratic Senate contender Jon Ossoff, who is headed for a runoff election against Sen. David Perdue in January, said Sunday that he wants to reimagine the role of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in America. Instead of making sure that illegal immigrants are deported back to their home countries, Ossoff said, ICE ought to be out there ensuring that employers are paying these aliens the required minimum wage.
Ossoff was prompted by a young woman who called herself a Dreamer when she stood up to address the candidate. She said that she lives in constant fear of being separated from her daughter or deported, and she asked the Democrat to expound on how he plans to help people like her.
“Dreamers, DACA recipients are every bit as American as any of us, and I will have your back in the U.S. Senate,” Ossoff said. “In Georgia’s agricultural sector, the campesinos (farm workers) who work in the fields, enduring some of the most brutal conditions of labor anywhere in this country to keep America fed, paid less than the minimum wage, are often subject to abuse by employers. When federal agents arrive at one of these farms it should be to make sure people are being paid the minimum wage, working in humane conditions.
“We should have gratitude for those who keep us fed, who toil in the fields, and show humanity and compassion for those who are a part of our society, but living in the shadows,” Ossoff continued. “So I will be there for you and for all Dreamers.”
Strangely enough, of the two Democrats running for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, Ossoff is actually the less radical! And hey, give him credit: He’s not saying he wants to “ABOLISH ICE.” Nah, he just wants to repurpose our domestic security officers so that they’re no longer doing anything that resembles their job. Instead of checking the credentials of illegal aliens, they should be enforcing federal minimum wage laws so that they apply to people WHO SHOULDN’T EVEN BE IN THE COUNTRY. Instead of deporting criminal aliens, perhaps they should be building community housing for those illegals who can’t afford their rent. Instead of working to protect U.S. citizens, maybe they should dedicate themselves to registering illegal immigrants to vote!
As long as we live, we’ll never quite understand why Democrats spend so much of their campaign time pandering to illegal immigrants. We get why they want to legalize them and all of that, yes, but who do they think they’re appealing to when they say stuff like this on the campaign trail? Judging by the percentage of Hispanics who went for Trump in the 2020 election, we have a feeling they may not even know themselves.
