Democrat Calling for Defunding Police SPENT Over $500K on Security
(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – According to recent reports by the NBC station KSDK in St. Louis, Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo. Got married to security guard Cortney Merritts in a private ceremony. Merritts had originally been employed to work on her campaign.
According to the report the couple filed for a marriage license on Feb. 11 at the St. Louis Recorder of Deeds. The ceremony reportedly took place a few days before they filed for a license.
Bush is known for being outspoken regarding defunding the police. Still, as of two months ago, she had spent over $500,000 in private security detail expenses. From Oct. 20 and Nov. 28, the lawmaker spent $38,528.63 on “security services,” during her campaign. This primarily was payment to the St. Louis-based Peace Security, which employs “security officers” with military or law enforcement experience.
In the 2022 election cycle, Bush spent $490,000 on security payments. Merritts, according to KSDK, is a U.S. Army veteran and was paid by the Bush campaign $62,359 in 2022 mostly for security services, albeit $2,359 was filed as cash reimbursement.
Peace Security was paid $317,680, which brings the total amount that Bush spent on security to $571,856.
While the Bush campaign spends large amounts on security detail, Bush herself has continued with her rhetoric for defunding the police.
The topic of Bush’s security payments first came into question in July 2021 by Fox News Digital. This led to CBS News asking questions about this and noting that it was hypocritical to hire private security while calling for law enforcement to be defunded.
