Limbaugh Mocks Media That’s Blaming Him for Government Shutdown
On his program this week, legendary conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh mocked the mainstream liberal media (and a couple of Republicans in Congress) for blaming him for the impending government shutdown. In a wildly entertaining segment, El Rushbo said that the media was going into a hysterical tailspin over the shutdown, as if nothing this catastrophic has ever happened before in Washington. Declaring Trump’s presidency to be in “chaos,” the media has begun hinting – without any particular evidence – that Republicans are getting ready to abandon Trump in droves…all because he’s doing exactly what he promised he would do in 2016.
“There is legitimate panic over this,” Limbaugh noted. “You would think these people would be happy because they’re telling us that, in effect, Donald Trump is destroying himself and Donald Trump is destroying his support base. They ought to support that! They’re acting like Donald Trump is going to destroy life as they know it, and that’s why they’re panicked.
“They ought to be celebrating if Trump is making this many mistakes, if he is doing this many things wrong,” he continued. “I mean, these people ought to realize if this is true, Trump’s imploding and he’s gonna be gone before very long and they’ll be able to pick up the pieces and put it all back together again. But they’re treating it as though a secretary of defense resigning is the end of the can you be, it’s the end of foreign policy, it’s the end of sanity — and now there’s no ‘adult supervision’ left around Trump and he’s totally dependent on me and Fox News.”
Then pivoting to the then-impending shutdown, Rush played a montage of media figures citing Limbaugh as one of Trump’s chief sources of direction and inspiration.
“Does he serve the American people, or does he serve Rush Limbaugh?” asked Nina Turner.
“Rush Limbaugh challenging to the president to do something, and then what did Trump do this afternoon?” asked CNN’s Brian Stelter. “He sent a message to Limbaugh reassuring him, ‘Yes, I will shut down the government.’”
“Did he not realize Rush Limbaugh took him seriously and literally?” asked NBC’s Chuck Todd.
“We’re less than 18 hours away from a government shutdown — seemingly thanks, in part, to Rush Limbaugh,” observed MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski.
And on and on.
Limbaugh’s point, ultimately, is that the media is freaking out because Trump is doing nothing less than what he promised he would do. And Limbaugh, yes, encouraged him to do it. Thank God for that!
