Mainstream Media Finally Reports on Biden’s Accuser (With Sickening Bias)
Roughly a thousand years after far-left and right-wing internet media covered the story of Tara Reade’s accusations against her former boss, Joe Biden, the mainstream press finally decided to publish the story this weekend. On Sunday, stories were published at the Washington Post, The New York Times, and NBC News, catching up to the accusation – which Reade made weeks ago on a podcast with Rolling Stone writer Katie Halper.
Unfortunately, if you expected that these outlets would give Reade the overwhelming benefit of the doubt – if you expected them to guide the reader towards “believing all women” in this instance – you were gravely disappointed.
While none of the articles published about Reade’s accusation came right out and called Biden’s former staffer a crazy liar, they basically did everything but dismiss her allegations out of hand. The Washington Post story is perhaps the worst in that regard, even including in the subheading this early dismissal: “Joe Biden’s presidential campaign called Tara Reade’s accusations false. ‘It is untrue. This absolutely did not happen.’”
Remember when they treated Brett Kavanaugh’s denial with the same level of seriousness that they treated Christine Blasey Ford’s accusations? We don’t either.
The Post spends the first few paragraphs drilling it into our heads that Reade has changed her story – that she originally only accused Biden of inappropriately touching her neck and shoulders, but said nothing about the more serious sexual assault that she alleged in the podcast with Halper. This is similar to the way they emphasized how Blasey Ford never said a word about her woeful encounter with Kavanaugh for thirty years. Oh, they didn’t emphasize that? We keep forgetting…
They then turn to Reade’s political agenda, which they highlight by telling us she’s a shill for Bernie Sanders, she’s a shill for Russia, and that she supported the Obama/Biden administration. This is comparable to the way they ran a front page story the day Blasey Ford’s lawyer admitted that her client was desperate to keep the anti-abortion Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court. Also comparable to the way they dismissed E. Jean Carrol’s accusations against Trump due to her tweets praising The Apprentice. Oh right, they didn’t do either of those things.
Speaking of Trump, how about THIS paragraph from the Biden/Reade story:
The former vice president has been accused of unwanted hugging and other physical contact, but The Post found no other allegations against him as serious as Reade’s. More than a dozen women, by contrast, have accused Trump of forced kissing, groping or sexual assault, and he has been recorded on audio boasting about grabbing women between their legs.
Wow. Make it a little more obvious, why don’t you?
It seems clear already that, barring some video evidence (and maybe not even then), the media is determined not to take Tara Reade’s accusation seriously. Apparently, #MeToo is just useful when it comes to trashing Republicans and expendable Democrats. Biden is just too big to fail.
