(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Thursday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for his ongoing feud with Disney, claiming that the governor should instead “sit down and negotiate” with the company.
During an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” McCarthy claimed that he would give DeSantis the same advice that he “gave President Biden,” which is that sitting down and negotiating is the only way to find solutions to a problem. He continued on to say that Disney is a big employer in Florida, and instead of discussing building a prison next to a park that is designed for families, the governor should instead negotiate with the company and try to solve any problems.
Earlier this month, DeSantis claimed that he might consider building a state prison on the land next to Disney World. The feud between the governor and Disney started last year after the company opposed the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, which barred all instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade.
Since then, DeSantis has tried to remove Disney’s special self-governing status over the district surrounding its park. On Tuesday, the company also sued DeSantis, claiming that they have been facing a “targeted campaign of government retaliation” for “protected speech,” which could harm their business operations. DeSantis has claimed the suit was “political” and dismissed it as such.
On Thursday, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) claimed that it was a “perfectly legitimate thing” for the state to want to address Disney’s “governmental-type powers.”
