Morose HuffPo Liberal: “Sadly, Trump is Winning”
Nearly a year into Donald Trump’s presidency, his liberal haters are being forced to come to the logical and unavoidable conclusion that – as Huffington Post liberal author Earl Ofari Hutchinson admitted this week – “sadly, Trump is winning.”
Well, we wouldn’t include the “sadly” part, but Hutchinson is certainly right about the rest of his morose headline. Trump is winning. He’s winning bigly. And not only that, he is winning as an almost perfectly polarized president, running against a stream of hatred emerging from nearly half the country. He’s able to do so because – one, that’s just the kind of personality he has, a streamroller businessman who is as comfortable being feared and despised as he is loved and adored. And two, because he IS loved and adored by the other half of the country – the half that has been utterly and completely ignored for the last eight years, if not much longer.
But let’s take a moment to enjoy Hutchinson’s sad admission that his biggest political enemy is winning the war for America’s future.
“This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write and admit: Trump is winning,” he writes. “In the brief space of a week, he won a brief court fight to shove Mick Mulvaney to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Mulvaney wasted no time in unhinging a spate of consumer protection rulings, regulations, and personnel hires made during the Obama years.
“His SCOTUS pick, Neil Gorsuch, eagerly cast a vote to impose the Muslim travel ban,” he continues. “His EPA head, Scott Pruitt, delivered a couple million acres of public monument land in the West to oil, gas, and coal industry developers. Trump busily continues to pack the federal judiciary with a parade of ultra-conservative, strict, constructionist Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia clones.”
Hutchinson, of course, characterizes all of Trump’s wins as disasters for sober-thinking liberal Americans, but even he cannot ignore the facts. Trump is indeed transforming this country, and there’s nothing that the Resistance has been able to or will be able to do about it.
Perhaps there is no clearer proof of that than the Democrats’ inability to mount a successful campaign against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, whose disastrous allegations would have doomed a Republican in any other era. And the same would have likely happened this year, had not the mainstream media and the Democratic Party made it so abundantly clear that THIS IS WAR. That Trump is NOT their president. That they WILL NOT rest until they impeach him or put him behind bars.
In that environment, conservatives know they do not enjoy the luxury of giving them a win. Every election is a fight on the battleground for this country’s future. If it means ignoring some things once in a while, well, the biased media makes it all the more easy to do so. They lie about Trump all the time, so why should anyone believe them when it comes to Moore?
Hutchinson will admit that Trump is “winning,” but he won’t admit the broader truth, which is that WE are winning as well. Not WE, conservatives. Not WE, white supremacists. Not WE, “deplorables.” No, WE, the people of the United States are winning. We are winning our country back one step at a time, and it will benefit liberals like Hutchinson just as much as any West Virginian coal miner and any Charlottesville alt-right marcher. This is a new era for the U.S., and the spoils will be for all. Maybe instead of fighting it, Trump’s haters should just relax and enjoy it.
