Nancy Pelosi Tells a Ridiculous Lie About Pre-Tearing the SOTU Speech
Two weeks after the fact, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has had time to digest the fact that her State of the Union stunt didn’t go over nearly as well as her “clapback” from last year’s speech. While that 2019 moment won her raves from the media, her decision to tear Trump’s speech in half this year fell flat with a resounding thud. Critics saw the moment as completely disrespectful – not just to the office of the presidency but to every veteran and hero that Trump mentioned throughout the night. And even Pelosi’s fans were forced to admit that ripping the speech was, at best, an act of childishness best forgotten as soon as possible.
We’re sure Pelosi herself would like to forget this moment, but when you make an ass out of yourself on live television, it takes a minute for the world to move on. In the meantime, the House Speaker appears desperate to recast the Great Speech Ripping as a spontaneous act of protest.
Asking Pelosi about the moment on Saturday, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour said, “Are you giving a signal that the Democrats will fight back hard, that you will not be constrained by what you believe to be insurgent behavior on the other side, and that this is, you know, a time to go mano a mano?”
“Let me say this: I had no intention of doing that when we went to the State of the Union. In fact, I was well into past the first third of it. I’m a speed reader so I was reading ahead so I knew what was there. I got past about a third of it and I thought, ‘This is terrible,'” Pelosi said.
Of course, given that there is footage of Pelosi “pre-ripping” the speech in advance of her big stunt, she knew she had to address the seeming inconsistency. Don’t worry, she’s got an excuse.
“I made a niche on a couple of pages thinking, ‘You ought to remember what was on this page, this page,’ then I realized most every page had something in it that was objectionable,” she said. “So it wasn’t a planned thing, but it was…”
She never quite got around to finishing that sentence, which is probably for the best. Because Pelosi is either lying or explaining why she should be excluded from polite society forever. Ripping pages so you can remember the “bad parts?” What are you, an animal?
But yeah, there’s Nancy’s attempt to rewrite the awful history of her stupid stunt. Wonder when she’s going to get around to rewriting the far-worse blunder of impeaching Donald Trump?
