Nearly 40% of Democrat Voters Support “Unlimited Abortion”

In his new Washington Examiner column, writer Paul Bedard shared some exclusive results from a new Zogby poll of Democrat voters. In the results, we see that while some moderate Democrats are urging the 2020 candidates to come back from the ledge and stop pushing extremist policies that will shift America into a socialist dystopia…there’s actually a very good reason why the race has turned into a fight for leftist ground. Democrat voters, to put it mildly, have some very radical ideas about the future of the United States.

Several of the candidates, notably Sanders and Warren, have made extravagant promises to voters on key issues and programs, and the poll found that there is a good audience for those, especially in helping illegal immigrants.

Among Democratic voters, Zogby found that:

    68% support “Medicare for all.”

    63% would repeal the Trump tax cuts.

    53% back a ban on new oil and natural gas drilling on federal land.

    49% support the Green New Deal.

    43% support reparations for African Americans.

    39% would decriminalize illegal border crossings.

    38% want taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants.

    38% support unlimited abortion.

    36% support the confiscation of legally owned firearms from those who have not committed a crime.

So yeah. Next time you hear one of these candidates spouting some crazy nonsense and you think, “Damn, who would be stupid enough to actually say that out loud?”…well, they apparently know what they’re doing.

Just look at some of those results. That many people think the U.S. government should go into people’s homes and take their guns away for no reason whatsoever? That many people think there should be no restrictions whatsoever on the (ha-ha) constitutional right to abortion? Nearly 40% of Democrats want the State to give illegal aliens free healthcare? What kind of madness IS this?

Now, the silver lining here is that the further the eventual Democratic nominee lurches to the left, the easier they will be to beat in a general election contest with Trump. But that is only mild comfort when you really start thinking about these numbers. This is a sign of a sea change in American politics, and it’s inevitably going to start infecting the way Republicans think about these issues. It’s moving the Overton window of acceptable discourse in our politics, and while we may never shift far enough to see any of these outlandish policies become law, many of them are so outrageous that even a compromise bill would be too extreme to tolerate.

Radical Democrats want to change this country from the top down. From the looks of this poll, they have succeeded in convincing a disturbing number of people that’s exactly what needs to be done. Scary stuff.
