New Details Emerge in Brutal Murder of Idaho Students

While there still is no suspect in the shocking crime, investigators have released some new details about the brutal murders of four young University of Idaho students who were violently stabbed to death in their sleep.

Police still feel that the four killed were targeted for some reason and have begun to piece together a timeline of where they were and what they were doing in the hours before the bloody slayings.

University students Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21, were stabbed to death in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, after they spent Saturday night out with friends.

Police initially said in a press release that Goncalves and Mogen, who were close friends, took an Uber ride home from downtown and arrived at their home on King Road near campus at 1:40 a.m. Investigators have now recanted that statement and say a “private party” drove them home, but it is unclear if the private party was someone the victims knew or was involved in the murders.

“This is a gruesome and heartbreaking tragedy,” Uber Communications Manager Navideh Forghani told Fox News when asked whether Uber provided a ride to Mogen and Goncalves. “It looks like Moscow Police updated the release to say a ‘private party.’ We have no record of the victims ordering a trip.”

Goncalves and Mogen spent Saturday evening at the Corner Club, a popular hangout for University of Idaho students. Later on early Sunday morning, they ordered food from the Grub Truck, a food truck, in Friendship Square, where they were last seen in video footage before the murders.

Kernodle and Chapin were at a party at the Sigma Chi fraternity on campus before they returned home on King Road around 1:45 a.m. Sunday.

Later that day, at 11:58 a.m., Moscow Police responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious person at the victims’ home and discovered the four dead students upon arrival.

Officers stationed at the home after the attack described a horrifically bloody scene inside.

“The coroner stated that the four victims were likely asleep, some had defensive wounds, and each was stabbed multiple times. There was no sign of sexual assault,” the Moscow Police Department said in a press release.

Two surviving roommates appear to have slept through the killings, something that Chief James Fry of the Moscow Police Department said investigators still did not understand.

“I don’t even know that information at this point in time,” he said at a news conference. “That’s why we’re continuing to investigate.” However, the police said they did not believe anyone who was in the house when the 911 call was placed was involved in the crime.

There are still no suspects in the case, nor has a murder weapon been found. Police say that they still have reason to believe that the victims of the attacks were “targeted,” but they are not at liberty to disclose why they think that is the case.
