New Poll: Impeachment Talk Likely to Backfire on Democrats

A new poll from NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist says that candidates talking about the impeachment of Donald Trump could risk losing voters this November.

“A congressional candidate’s position on whether or not to impeach President Donald Trump could be a motivating factor in this year’s midterm elections,” report the pollsters. “A plurality of registered voters (47%) say they would definitely vote against a candidate for Congress who wants to impeach the president. 42% would definitely vote for a candidate who has that intent, and 10% are unsure.

“Notably, three in ten Democrats say they would either definitely vote against a candidate who favors impeachment (18%) or are unsure (12%),” they continue. “70% of Democrats would definitely vote for such a candidate. Among Republicans, 84% would not back a candidate seeking to impeach President Trump. A plurality of independents (47%) say the same.”

The really remarkable figure is in that second paragraph, and that’s the one Democrat candidates should be paying attention to. Thirty percent of registered Democrats would seriously consider NOT voting for a candidate who wants to impeach Trump. If that isn’t a failure of messaging, what is?

The mainstream media – the Democratic Party’s propaganda machine – has been priming voters to CRAVE the impeachment of Trump for the entire term of his presidency thus far. And they still have 30% of their voters out there saying, not just that talk of impeachment doesn’t move their needle, but that they definitely will not vote for a Democrat who’s shucking that jive. If you’re a Democrat in the Congress or a Democrat playing a journalist on TV, that one has to sting.

When you put this poll together with others that show President Trump’s approval ratings hitting an all-time high and others that show voters slowly but surely turning against Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the backlash against the #Resistance may finally be upon us. We knew it was only a matter of time. There’s only so long you can play the same, tired OMG HE’S THE WORST record before people get sick of hearing it.

The country is not only fine after sixteen months of Donald Trump’s presidency but in demonstrably better shape than it has been in years. How is that possible, if Trump is the American Hitler that all the idiots warned us about? How is that possible if he’s the pig-dumb ignoramus that they all said he was? The facts don’t match the hype, and people – even those who bought into all of the fear about Trump – are beginning to realize they were sold a bill of goods.
