“Not My President”: Protesters Take to the Streets
Scarcely a month ago, liberals were wagging their fingers at Donald Trump, shaming him for suggesting that he might not accept the results of the election. Today, they’re singing a different tune. Thousands of protesters hit the streets in New York City, Seattle, Oakland, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and elsewhere to march, set fires, and chant things like, “Not my President!”
Hmm, perhaps they should have voted.
It’s tempting to get really angry about these protesters. What, exactly, are they protesting? The people voted. The election results were clear. There are no contested states. There are no lawsuits in progress. Hillary conceded. Obama promised a smooth transition of power. Our democracy worked as it has always worked, and the outcome reflects the will of the voters.
But apparently they aren’t listening. One news report quoted a protester outside Trump Tower as saying “there was a constitutional duty not to accept” the outcome of the election. It’s too bad they didn’t ask the protester to quote the passage of the Constitution he was relying on to make such a ridiculous statement. It would have been enlightening, to say the least.
If you feel enraged by these protests, though, here’s something to mitigate your anger. Well, two things. One: We won! They can protest until the cows come home and it won’t change the results of the election. Donald Trump will be the 45th president of the United States, and there’s not a damn thing these idiots with their signs and effigies can do about it. Why get upset about what really amounts to poor sportsmanship?
Here’s the other thing: These people have been brainwashed for four straight months to believe that this was NOT going to happen under ANY circumstances. Not a single media outlet on the left (NBC, NY Times, CNN, etc.) or the far left (websites that needn’t be mentioned) gave Trump the slightest chance of winning. In an election season where we saw the media abandon all pretense of objectivity and honesty, it was all of these shellshocked Hillary supporters who were hurt the worst. This election undid 15 months of media lies in one night, and a lot of those protesters are still trying to figure out what happened. Give ’em a few days. They’ll come back to reality.
Now, if these protests continue or swell into widespread destruction, all of that goes out the window. Your ignorance is not an excuse for violence.
Otherwise, let’s just treat this as the left’s last, defiant gasp. No glass ceilings were shattered, but the liberal American worldview sure was.
