Obama: Talk Sense Into Your Trump-Loving, Limbaugh-Listening Grandparents
Former President Barack Obama joined Joe Biden for a virtual fundraising event on Tuesday in which he took aim at President Trump, Fox News, Republicans in Congress, and Rush Limbaugh. Obama was in rare form as he assailed Trump’s first term and urged Democrat-leaning voters to “do more” to make a Biden presidency a reality. Sounding at times like someone more interested in starting a cult than raising money for a candidate, Obama even went as far as to encourage his supporters to talk their uncles and grandparents out of their conservative views.
Obama said that voters could not afford to take victory for granted.
“We can’t be complacent or smug or sense that somehow it’s so obvious that this president hasn’t done a good job, because look, he won once,” Obama said. “This is serious business. Whatever you’ve done so far is not enough. And I hold myself and Michelle and our kids to that same standard.”
The former president suggested, absurdly, that the system is somehow stacked against Democrats.
“What we have seen over the last couple of years is a White House enabled by Republicans in Congress and a media structure that supports them and has not just differed in terms of policy, but has gone to the very foundations of who we are and who we should be,” Obama said.
Obama said that President Trump “exploits divisions” among America by preying on the economic insecurities that many feel. He then said that Trump uses those insecurities to feed the backlash against movements like Black Lives Matter and LGBT rights campaigns.
“And it’s amplified — there’s a whole megaphone of conservative media that has ramped that up,” Obama said, discounting the possibility that burning cities and transgender overreach might be responsible for the backlash.
Then he went full-on cult leader: “If you’ve got an uncle, or a grandmother, who is watching Fox News and listening to Rush Limbaugh — if I say something to her or him, they’re not gonna be paying much attention. In fact, I can’t reach them. But you can.”
What do they do when you join a cult like Scientology or some other weird psycho religion? The first thing they do is separate you from your family. You must either convert them…or turn against them. Those are your choices. That’s how the cult becomes your new family. You depend on the cult for your whole social structure. This is a central tenet of the Black Lives Matter movement, it’s a central tenet of LGBT activism, and here, it’s clearly becoming a part of the mainstream Democratic Party.
