Obama Warns Democrats: We Could Still Lose This Election
President Obama says that he’s sick of talking about Donald Trump, but the subject was apparently compelling enough to draw him out of his 16-day Martha’s Vineyard vacation, at least for an hour or so. Obama popped over to a private residence in Chilmark on Monday night to speak to 60 Democratic donors who paid $10,000 each to be there. There, he took joy in the current polls while warning the faithful not to take anything for granted when it came to Hillary Clinton’s chances.
“What I do want to emphasize is needing a sense of urgency and finishing the job of getting her elected,” Obama said. “And you notice I haven’t said much about her opponent. Frankly, I’m tired of talking about her opponent. I don’t have to make the case against her opponent because every time he talks he makes the case against his own candidacy.”
Nonetheless, Obama said, the votes weren’t in yet.
“There’s still a lot of uncertainty out there,” he admitted. “And if we are not running scared until the day after the election, we are going to be making a grave mistake.”
He said that Democrats would have to “do their jobs” to ensure her success.
“And when I say ‘do our jobs,’ what I mean is we are going to have to continue to be engaged,” Obama said. “We are going to continue to have to write checks. We are going to continue to have to make phone calls, and rally people behind her candidacy. We are still going to have to fight what has been an unrelenting negative campaign against her that has made a dent in the opinion of people even who are inclined to vote for her.”
Yes, Hillary Clinton is the one who has been victimized by an “unrelenting negative campaign” in Obama’s eyes. This, despite every moment of political coverage on all three networks, all of the cable news channels, and in the biggest mainstream newspapers being carefully crafted around a DONALD TRUMP IS THE WORST MAN IN HISTORY narrative. Yes, Democrats will really have to hustle if they want to get her through this dark forest of negativity and into the shining light of the White House.
Did Obama have to “overcome” this stacked-deck fantasy to become president? These people are truly removed from reality.
But he’s right about one thing: Hillary could still lose.
That’s hope and change we can get behind.
