Obama: “You Lose a Big Audience” When You Say Defund the Police

A master of stating the obvious, former President Barack Obama said this week that slogans like “Defund the Police” did little to move police reform forward and instead only served to alienate people who have a shred of common sense. Okay, he didn’t exactly say it in those words, but that was the obvious gist of his remarks. Because, as hard as it is to believe four years on from his presidency, Obama has become a voice of reason within the Democratic Party…or at least as close to reason as the left ever gets. That’s a scary thought in more ways than one.

“You lost a big audience the minute you say it,” Obama said in an interview with Peter Hamby.

Acknowledging that “snappy slogans” garner a lot of attention, Obama said the downside it that it “makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done.”

Here’s where we think that Obama may be missing the point, though. Because we’re not at all convinced that the far-left, BLM movement people really WANT to get any changes done. They don’t want reform – incremental or otherwise. They don’t want “better police.” They want all or nothing, and we have a feeling they understand that “all” is never going to happen. No one outside tiny sects in Portland and Minneapolis is going to vote for abolishing the police. It’s a nonstarter. And that’s the point.

What would become of Antifa if they got everything they wanted? What would happen to the grifters running Black Lives Matter if suddenly the country gave in to all of their demands. These imbeciles only exist because they represent the counterculture. They don’t want improvements – it can be debated if they even (really) want revolution. They want to sit beneath the bleachers and throw rocks (and Molotov cocktails) at the Americans who are actually in the game, running the country. To even treat something like “defund the police” as it if made sense – much less deserved to be taken seriously – is to give these fools far more credit than they deserve.

“The key is deciding, do you want to actually get something done, or do you want to feel good among the people you already agree with?” Obama said.

See, Obama thinks by making that observation, he’ll get through to the loonies out there saying things like “Defund the Police.” On that – like so many things – he is dead wrong. Feeling good among the people they already agree with is their WHOLE thing. Well that and making money off of radical books that appeal to elitist liberals who want to pretend they’re “woke” with their friends in the Hamptons.

It’s sad that even someone with as much left-wing clout as Obama can’t call this “movement” the charade that it is.
