Outlaw California Could Soon Become a Sanctuary State for Illegals
The California Assembly Judiciary Committee put their stamp of approval on Senate Bill 54 on Wednesday, moving the state one step closer to becoming a full-fledged sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Taking the policies of San Francisco and Los Angeles and expanding them across the entire state has been a motivating cause for Democrat Senate Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, who regularly boasts of his illegal immigrant lineage. And now, with the bill having crossed one of the final political hurdles on its way to Sacramento, De Leon believes that California will soon lead the way to a new era in abject lawlessness.
Of course, he doesn’t quite put it that way.
“If Jeb Bush or Chris Christie or John Kasich had been elected, this bill would not be necessary,” De Leon said. “These are extraordinary times. Under constitutional threats from the reckless Trump administration, SB 54 protects state and local law enforcement and resources necessary to keep our communities safe. ICE is out to arrest and deport honest, hard-working parents who obey the laws and pay their taxes and owe allegiance to the red, white and blue. Arrests of undocumented immigrants with no previous criminal record are up 150 percent since Trump became president.”
That last sentence sounds like an applause line at a Trump rally, but of course numbers like that are poison to the bleeding hearts. Not that we’re really saying that deportation officials should be going out of their way to round up non-offending illegals, but we’re not going to cry in our coffee about it either. As a country of LAWS, we have every right to enforce them. And if the choice is between wrangling up a few “good people” and ignoring thousands of criminals, well, that’s really no choice at all. And hey, if we get that wall built, maybe we’ll have fewer illegal immigrants caught in a bad situation.
Naturally, however, Democrats oppose any legitimate effort to enforce our border laws as well.
What’s truly galling is that they position their sanctuary policies as ideas that will make California communities SAFER. They do this with one of the most ingenious lies ever concocted: That illegal immigrants won’t report crimes to the police if they fear being turned over to ICE. Therefore, police can’t properly keep these communities safe in the absence of sanctuary policies. None of this is supported by the slightest shred of evidence, but apparently that doesn’t matter.
California is getting ready to make one of the biggest mistakes ever made by a U.S. state, and it’s one that will have disastrous consequences for the rest of the country. We hope that Gov. Jerry Brown has the sense to veto this garbage bill when it gets to his desk, but Trump Derangement Syndrome makes that unlikely.
When California Democrats come begging for the federal government to bail them and their millions of non-citizens out of the economic jam they’re about to wade into, they can take a flying leap into the Pacific.
